Convenience store snacks are constantly evolving, although chocolate is a snack choice that seems to remain popular. The National Confectioner’s Association states that chocolate sales are expected to grow at a 5% pace in convenience stores. This being said, it is important to provide your consumers the best options in chocolate.

Size matters- consumers are now looking for more portable, re-sealable and shareable packages of chocolate candies, according to the article “Chocolate Attracts Snackers” by Brad Perkins. Retailers are still seeing that the traditional single packaged candy bars are the best sold product yet.

Something new- A noticed trend by retailers is that consumers are scoping out for products that include dark chocolate, organic chocolate, coconut, almonds and super seeds.  Premium chocolate sales grew by 10% in the past year due to customer’s demand of higher-quality chocolate. Millennials are looking for c-stores that are offering a chocolate bar with more diversification; chocolate with bacon, spices and sours are some examples.
