The company has created a policy for providing funeral pay to provide income protection while an associate is attending to a death in the family. This is a benefit, not a right. It is granted on a need basis.
ELIGIBILITY: Regular full-time associates.
EFFECTIVE DATE: After thirty-one (31) days of employment.
COST: The Company pays Funeral pay. The basis for the pay is the same as for vacation pay.
BENEFIT: Associates may be granted time off, with pay, for a necessary absence due to a death in the associate's family for purposes of arrangement for, travel to, and attendance at a funeral. This benefit is designed to protect the pay of an associate who needs the time off. This time cannot be banked and used at a later date. Time off with funeral pay is not counted towards work time.
The family is defined as the associate's spouse, children, sons-in-law, daughters-in- law, grandchildren, parents, parents-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, brothers, and brothers-in-law.
On the death of an immediate family member (spouse, children, mother, father, brother, and sister), the associate may be granted up to three (3) days off. On the death of other relatives, the associate may be granted one (1) day for the funeral. In special circumstances the supervisor, with approval from the Human Resources Department, may authorize up to five (5) days off with pay. The supervisor may authorize any time off without pay deemed appropriate.
"Step" can be applied to all of the family member definitions and the same amount of time off according to the policy will be applied.
TERMINATION: Funeral pay will be paid to any eligible associate who is still employed at the time of the death of the family member.
