Personal Days are provided to meet the unique needs of the associate and allow for time off with pay.
ELIGIBILITY: Regular full-time and part-time associates.
EFFECTIVE DATE: Full Time Associates - Immediately upon hire.
Part-Time Associates - Following the completion of two (2) full consecutive calendar years at 1000 hours worked per year.
COST: The basis for Personal Day pay is the same as the guidelines for Vacation Pay.
BENEFIT: Personal Days for new full-time associates will be pro-rated during the first year of employment. Associates on the payroll prior to May 1st are eligible for two (2) Personal Days in that calendar year. Associates starting between May 1 and August 31 are eligible for one (1) Personal Day in that calendar year.
Full-time associates will be awarded two (2) Personal Days [16 hours] every January 1 following eligibility, if the associate has maintained full-time status.
Non-exempt part-time associates will receive two (2) Personal Days each equal to one fifth of the average number of hours they work in a normal week, rounded to the nearest full hour. As an example, if they are normally scheduled for 25 hours per week, their Personal Day pay will be 5 hours, and if they normally work 28 hours per week they will receive 6 hours per day.
Personal Days must be scheduled and approved by the associate's supervisor. There is a combined limit of five (5) Personal and Vacation Days that can be banked or carried over year to year.
Personal Days are voluntarily scheduled and are not counted as work hours for the purpose of calculating overtime.
YEAR-END PAY OUT: See vacation for criteria for pay-out of unused personal days.
TERMINATION: Personal Days, regular or banked, are a benefit offered by the company to working associates. An associate who is terminated for cause is not eligible for Personal Days payout. Cause includes, but is not limited to, theft, policy violations, disciplinary actions, excessive absenteeism, insubordination, and misconduct.
Personal Days, regular or banked, will be paid to an associate who voluntarily leaves the company only if the associate resigns, gives two (2) weeks' notice, and works the final two (2) weeks. Paid time off cannot be scheduled during the two (2) week period. To receive Personal Days payout, an associate must work the final two (2) weeks. In addition, Personal Days, regular or banked, that were awarded during the first two (2) calendar years of employment will be paid out on a pro-rated basis for the calendar year(s) worked, provided the associate is not terminated for cause.
