The U.S. Oil Open began in 1986 with a simple hope-improve the lives of people touched by Diabetes. U.S. Oil Company invited community leaders to pool their resources in support of this cause and enjoy a day of fun. With U.S. Oil covering all the costs, $46,645 was deposited in the U.S. Oil Diabetes Fund, the first ever designated fund of the Community Foundation of the Fox Valley.
Since 1986, $7,705,877 has been contributed to six funds at the Community Foundations of the Fox Valley and Green Bay. In addition to the U.S. Oil Open Diabetes Fund, there has been two other funds in each foundation. One has benefited needy children and youth, and the other has benefited people touched by Alzheimer's and other related dementias.
Due to the enormous success and impact of these funds, U.S. Oil felt compelled to evaluate the current needs of the surrounding communities.
With overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the community, the 22nd Annual U.S. Oil Open in 2007 was pleased to announce that these three funds would merge into one - the new U.S. Oil Open Fund for Basic Needs.
The new Fund for Basic Needs will combine the efforts of the three previous funds. Additionally, it will support organizations that have developed strong programs to serve those in need. It will help facilitate instrumental programs in securing basic needs such as job skills, health care, mental health services, and of course, food, clothing, and shelter.
To date, over $5,000,000 in grants have been made to organizations within the Fox Cities and Green Bay regions. With the growing generosity of business friends and neighbors, these grant dollars will continue to increase and assist those struggling to meet their most basic needs.
The coming year promises to be filled with just as much excitement! With the launch of the U.S. Oil Open Fund for Basic Needs in the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, the U.S. Oil Open will now impact all of northeast Wisconsin.
Every dollar needed to host the annual event is paid by U.S. Oil Co., Inc. This means that every dollar contributed goes directly to the U.S. Oil Open Fund for Basic Needs.
